People
Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world. Poverty is also widespread in this area despite tourism. Lack of income forces families to have many children who have to work. As a result, these children cannot go to school, and a lack of education often leads to child marriage, sexual abuse and domestic violence.
That is why Soa Zara is projecting the construction of school canteens, where the children can get a free or cheap lunch. Not only does this give children a nutritious meal, but it also gives parents a reason to send their children to school.
Together with FPFE , an organization for the protection of women and children and other minorities, we support people suffering from abuse and violence..
While FPFE is following the court proceedings, Soa Zara is helping the victims and their families by paying them for the medicines and medical examinations at the Ranohira Hospital that we established.
Tourism usually has negative impacts on the environment of the area, such as higher water consumption or increasing waste. However, the tourists are an important source of income for the local population. For this reason, we work with travel agencies that promote sustainable tourism. Our guests can participate financially in the various projects and plant trees on the reforestation areas.
To limit our own negative impact, there is no swimming pool at Delina & Jacobs Hotel, ITC Lodge and we collect plastics, metals and other reusable or recyclable materials.
